Just a few words on a movie called Lakshmi I had the pleasure of seeing last night at the London Asian Film Festival…
Even though I didn’t get to finish watching Lakshmi the movie last night (an Indian film about girls as young as 14 who are taken from villages and sold into the sex trade/prostitution in India and who suffer torture and abuse at the hands of pimps and the people that sell them. I didn’t finish watching it as I wasn’t feeling well so I had to leave early) I was so glad that director Nagesh Kukunoor has the balls to make such a thought provoking (and rather disturbing and not a film if you are easily shocked) film which will make people stand up and take notice of this cause. The main protagonist Monali Thakur and all the other actors involved including Shefali Shah, Satish Kaushik and Ram Kapoor in fact were brave, brave people and I applaud you!
This is the type of film India should be sending to the Oscars.
