I don’t often post film reviews but after seeing Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the latest film by Karan Johar, I just had to share my views. The film follows two main characters Ayan and Alizeh who are friends. I don’t wait to give away too much but the film revolves around the subject of unrequited love, which I can safely say that I am an expert on. I could give lectures and write papers on the matter.
I have never been the biggest fan of Ranbir Kapoor but in this film he blew me away. I have had a problem where I haven’t been able to emotionally cry. There was none of that while watching this film. I related to so many parts portrayed by Ranbir and I sobbed. From falling in love with a friend, to someone not loving you the way they should. That is the story of my life. I actually felt like I was watching some of my life in the film. I am no film critic but in my humble opinion the film just tugged at my emotions so much. It was poignant, beautiful, emotional and makes your heart break.
I have always said, for me, in the current day and age, Karan Johar is my favourite director and with this film he continues to stay in the top spot. When I was younger I was Anjali of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and today I am Ayan of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
It was wonderful seeing the sights of London in the film; especially the Roundhouse, The Gherkin, Soho and Shoreditch. Apart from the ending, I loved every single moment of this film.
The music is just wow. They released all the songs one by one and they are all so beautiful. I thought Bulleya was my favourite but it is Channa Mereya which breaks my heart with its lyrics, melody, music and emotions.

I could go on for so long but I wont, but will leave you with one of the most powerful lines of the film said by someone very famous who makes a cameo:
‘Ek tarfa pyar ki taqat hi kuch aur hoti hai, yeh do logon ke beech nahin hoti hai, is mein sirf mera haque hai, mera’ (if you don’t know what it means, google it!)
For those who can’t have the person they love, you will fall in love and have your heart broken all over again. Karan Johar, you will be my most favourite director, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
