Bar Esca – Nottingham

Tapas. The word makes my mouth water. It makes me think of trips to Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Seville. If you’ve been to Mercado San Miguel in Madrid, then you’ll know what i’m talking about!

Gambas, patatas bravas, padron peppers and pan con tomate are dishes my fella and I cook on nights in. So, when a restaurant comes along that does delicious tapas, I will visit it a lot. This is what I have been doing with Bar Esca, located in the heart of Nottingham, that I’ve been to a lot while I’ve been staying with my parents during lockdown and not in London.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been there many times over the years, so it isn’t a new discovery. I have been with my niece during the summer holidays, for solo lunches when places started to open up, but this Saturday, I had a lovely late lunch date with my oldest friend from school, Kirsty.

So, this isn’t exactly a review nor is it gifted, but I just wanted to share some pictures of this restaurant that does the staple Spanish dishes, sangria and cava, as well as seasonal dishes (tempura mushrooms with truffle oil were so lush and I didn’t expect them!). The food is just delicious here, and while we can’t travel, i’m happy to enjoy the food of the country i’m dying to get back to.

Not once has it let me down in terms of quality, taste, texture and flavour. Also, shoutout to the waiter who made us the delicious bar esca cocktail. The service here is also amazing! Could have easily spent the entire afternoon here, but sadly we had to vacate our table.

Kirsty also had some halloumi fries and the bread was gluten free for her. Bar Esca has loads of veggie options and they also have the option to make some dishes vegan.

If you’re in town, want amazing tapas, do give this place a try!
